San Diego Scuba Diving at it finest!

What a difference a few days makes, no surf this morning, calm glassy surface conditions, and lots of parking on the street this morning. We geared up and headed out with no particular destination, gotta love when you just go with what you hit, the patch at the southeastern edge of Vallecitos point and southbound.

Awesome, so many nudi’s out, tons of Hermissendas everywhere, a big honkin Janolus, Frondosis, Picta’s, Trilineata’s, Navanax including mating ones. Sea Hares abounded this morning as well. Many little Octos playing, hiding, hunting in the crap patch. A baby Horn Shark in the grass, as I took his picture I looked up and there was a little Hermissenda floating in the water. Then a little Pipefish in the water column too. Ton’s of Pipefish this morning, one bunch of grass had 4 of them that I could see, all different shades. Then we found a big one with another little one above it. More on the way in as well.

We kept heading south and east and hit part of the wall heading east to the south wall. Found a cute little baby Scorpionfish, lots of Shrimp of different varieties and some more patient than others getting their pics taken. 1 Blenny who I barely got before he retreated. A big spider looking Crab that I hope someone can identify for me. An Octo on the butt of a Sea Hare stood out for sure and Terry found a big Scorpionfish just before we headed in.

As we called the turn around and went over the top of the wall the bottom was just covered and not spots of coverage, but inch to inch baby Sand Dollars as far as you could see. They were thick and consistent for what seemed forever. We made our way over them in complete awe at just how many there were when something whizzed by in front of me, I look to my side and its a Cormorant, and another, and another, I looked at Terry and he’s like moving his head all over the place to see them all. They dove and swam near us for a minute or 2 before they were gone. Wasn’t long after I saw fish scales float down the water column. Too Cool. To top off the dive was a very tiny baby Horn Shark in about 15 feet of water.

Amazing dive this morning, gotta get back out ASAP, hoping it doesn’t rain for awhile.
